Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer, you will interact with the engineering team to solve problems and build, extend, optimize and refactor the back-end architecture of our growing products. This will involve working on our existing codebase along with new projects. Airtel Africa Digital Labs (AADL) has a highly passionate engineering-driven environment where your contribution will be felt immediately. All teams at AADL are involved in every part of our development life cycle.

Responsibilities

• Efficient, scalable, and high-quality data architecture: Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
• Continuous availability of clean, accurate, and up-to-date data: Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
• Actionable insights that inform strategic business decisions: Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
• Increased stakeholder satisfaction with analytics outputs: Work with management to prioritize business and information needs
• Seamless integration of data solutions with infrastructure and systems: Coordinate with Infrastructure Team, System Engineering & DBA groups.
• Reduced operational overhead and improved service delivery: Understand the capabilities of platform and ensure effective delivery/operations engagement

Educational Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or related field from a recognized university
• 5+ years’ experience 
• Demonstrable knowledge of relational database i.e. Oracle, Sql, MySQL
• Scripting language – Shell or Python 
• A good understating on Payment Banks and the architecture

Relevant Experience:

• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages, databases, programming frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Other requirements: 

• Out of many tools and technologies, we use Java, MongoDb, Cassandra, Redis, Twem, Netty extensively for our back-end development; knowledge of these tools will be an added advantage.
